SJZ Vocational College of Foreign Language Translation

　　SJZ Vocational College of Foreign Language Translation is a provincial higher education institution(HEI) according to The Setup Standard for Higher Vocational School(temporary),Ministry of Education.It is authorized by the Hebei Government and put on records in Ministry of Education,aiming at cultivate foreign language translators.It is entitled to confer diploma of ordinary higher education institution(HEI) independenently.The recruitment ,which faces the senior middle school grads ,is a part of the national HEI plan.
1、The Location
　　The college is located at 29 Huifeng West Road,Hongqi Street of Shijiazhuang City. Surrounded by Hebei Normal University and Hebei Economy and Trade University;with famous teachers and thousands of students gathering,it has both superior study and spare-time culture environment. The campus covers a total area of 500 mu and a floor space of 156,000 square meters.With the　investment of 370,000,000RMB,the college has built a series of teaching building ,dining-room and domitory,which can respectively hold 5,100 people,also has built the library building, the administration building,the standard playground ---the whole building area of 3,000 square meters.The establishment of water ,electric and central heating is well fitted.
2、The Particular Setting of Speciality
　　In order to make the college a well-knowned foreign language translation college,the major leaders of Minitory of Education,Hebei Province proposed “three aimings” theory for the speciality setting of foreign language translation,that is :setting speciality aiming at market,aiming at industrieds,aiming at vocation;and set more specialities to make sure of the quantity,recruit on a smaller scale to make sure that the requirement is a little more than the supply.The provincial Ministry of Education entitled the college to recruit students covering 26 specialities in 2007.
3、.Better Teacher Resource
　　There are 378 teachers in the college,among them 309 are full-time teachers and 26 full-time foreign teachers,69 part-time teachers.And the ratio of teachers and students is 16.5:1,full-time teachers and the whole teaching staff 82.2:100,part-time teachers and full-time teachers 22.3:100.Among the full-time teachers six are government consultants,respectively:Liu Xiaoqiu,Liu Duotian,Liu Qiushuan,Wu Kuiyuan,Yan Douxing and Zhang Gaiqin.
　　In order to improve the basic translation skills and abilities---listening, speaking, reading,writing and translating,the important foreign language sourses are all taught by experienced foreign teachers who come from such countries as American,Britain,Russia,etc.At present there are 26 foreign teachers.Nine more experienced teachers are made leaders of foreign teachers specialities teaching group.They are 　　Uzene(France),Danes(German),Gice(America),Lana(Korea),Abufangjiu (Japan).Also,we regularly invite the ambassadors and the head of transnational corportion to give lectures on some courses and put emphasis on the students’abilities to analysis and solve concrete problems practically.

４、Advanced Teaching Equipment

　　The college has 20 advanced digital audiovisual sound labs and 108 infrared sound labs—their construction realizing the integrety of the traditional classroom and the sound lab.In addition,the college equipped 108 rooms with teaching TV,VCD,recorder and projector,and 60 movable projectors and portable computers.Therefore we have multimedia teaching in 108 classes and have other advanced teaching equipment.What is more,the college has its own camopus broadcast transmitter-receiver and television stastion,which largely enrich the students’spare-time life and make it convenient to learn about the events both at home and abroad.Also there are many school organizations to colour our everyday life.Furthermore,the television-satellite system can receive 15 foreign language TV programmes at the same time,providing a better environment for students.

５、The Orientation of Opening an Ordinary Foreign-affair School

　　The college is an ordinary foreign-affair school,authorized by Ministry of Education.It has the following characteristics:1)Independently engage foreign teaching teachers to build a stable teaching group.2)Equally exchange teacher resource and educational resource with foreign educational departments and normal HEIs,which will make students in an internationalized campus.3)Directly appoint exchange students with foreign HEIs on the basis of credit,which not only shortens time but also saves expense.
６、The Garden-like Campus
　　On entering the gate of the college,a 50-meter-wide walk-road runs thruogh the campus from south to north under the green shades.At the southern end of this road,there are teaching areas composed of high-standard teaching buildings and library building of electric teaching.At the northern end,there are living areas consisting of apartments and dining centers.There is a beautiful European culture-corridor between these two European-stylized areas.At the western end of the corridor is the green land,which is a large sports area with 400-meter track and football field.At the eastern end are a square for
Leisure and a park,in which there are cloisters ,smart pavilions and green lawn,besides,people can be seen reading books in the morning and dancing in the late afternoon,all of which form a beautiful view!
７、Teaching Only in Foreign Language
　　The teaching language has changed from the bilingual education at the beginning to the only foreign language.Foreign language is used as a main communicate method in the aspects such as class teaching,communication between teachers and students,campus broadcasting,campus TV,etc.Therefore,there is a dense atmosphere for studying foreign languageon the campus,and the college has become an English Square in the capital city,thus students’abilities of listening and speaking has improved quickly.
８、Education of Various Levels
　　After there years’study the graduates can take part in the selective examination for undergraduate students holding in the springs or autumns.The excellent students have access to the key universities in this province for further study;They can also choose“continous study”,provided that students take part in the text organized by the college for students who study by themselves.One year after they get their college diploma.they can get their undergraduation diploma and bachelor’degree.Then, they can also choose to go for gurther study,that is,postgraduate study.
９、Practice,Job,Further Study and Study Abroad
　　The college has access to recommend excellent students during the second term of the third year for a two-to-six-month training abroad.Besides,the college can directly recommend some graduates forjobs,especially for some good majors.They can also choose to go deeper study in somne countries such as Singpore, Ukraine,Australia,NewZealand,Korea and so on.

１０、The Unique Cultivation of Talents
　　The model of cultivating talents includes the aspects of Chinese ancient culture,foreign language speciality,knowledge of various majors,vocational skills and vocational qualities.In the first year,students all learn the basic English course;In the second and third year,they learn courses for their majors anf for their vocation respectively.At the same time,they will learn some common and specialized courses,e.g.car-driving,computer-using,rank test for foreign language,Chinese-writing and so forth.
